OBITUARIES
We are saddened to announce the death of John Smith after a long illness.
Perhaps more than any of us John was the embodiment of our club. As well as being one of our best bowlers and a reliable skip, he was always ready to help out whenever and wherever he was needed. We will miss John not only for his friendship and knowledge but also for the many hours of work he put in both in bringing the Barretts green up to scratch and for many years previously at the Linden Club. Even during his illness, he found time to get down and provide advice and assistance to the green maintenance team when needed.
That's quite a formidable bowling team up there now - Charlie, Sheila and John!
We are sorry to report the death of Charlie Bell, the Clubs oldest and one of its most popular members.
Charlie (Chuck to his family) is pictured in his beloved garden where we understand he had already been practicing for the 2021 Season.
It is easy to imagine him now on some celestial bowling green, brandishing his ancient Bowls Textbook and discussing the finer points of the game with the likes of David Bryant, perhaps going on to share tales of his exploits as a Train Driver.
Rest in Peace, Charlie. You will be greatly missed by everyone at Barretts Bowling Club and your many friends from the local outdoor leagues and Grimsby and District Indoor Bowls League.
We have also received news of the death of Sheila Childs.
Sheila was already a familiar figure to some members, who had bowled with (and against) her in both the Outdoor and Indoor Leagues, when she joined the Club two years ago.
An ex County player and former Chairwoman of the original Barretts Bowls Club she quickly became a valuable member of the B Team and continmued to play regularly during the restricted 2020 Season.
Sheila is pictured bowling in one of the friendly matches we arranged with Clee Bowls when we finally returned to something like competitive bowling.
We will miss you Sheila.
